Jora Young has worked in the field of natural areas conservation and resource management for 34 years, 23 of these with The Nature Conservancy. During this time she held various positions. As the Director of Science and Stewardship for the Conservancy’s programs in the states of Ohio (1984-1986) and Florida (1986-1994), she oversaw The Conservancy’s preserve management, research, conservation planning, conservation science and outreach programs. In these roles, Jora was involved in developing these nascent programs and designing and launching numerous new projects, some of which were the Oak Openings Savannah restoration and Big Darby project in Ohio, the Blowing Rocks, Tiger Creek and Apalachicola restoration projects, The Florida Keys project, The Lake Wales Ridge Ecosystem Working Group, The Eglin Air Force Base Project and the Gulf Coastal Plain Ecosystem Partnership in Florida. As Director of Science and Special Projects for the Florida program (a job she held from 1994-2004) she continued to oversee the science team’s work and the launching of new projects for the Chapter – helping to develop The Disney Wilderness Preserve Project, the conservation learning center at DWP, The Natural Areas Training Academy, and the Wekiva/Ocala landscape project. She was chosen by John Sawhill to participate as part of a five person team who facilitated the development of the Conservancy’s Strategic Plan for the 1990’s. She was the first participant in the Conservancy’s Australian Fellowship Program – serving a 3-month fellowship helping a new conservation group develop their program and design a restoration concept for wetlands in southern Victoria. She is currently the Director of Conservation Action Training for The Nature Conservancy. In this role, she is developing and supporting a network of conservation practitioners across the organization who work with field-based teams to develop effective conservation strategies everywhere the organization works. Before coming to the Conservancy, Ms. Young worked for state and county government as a field ecologist, park manager, and naturalist. Her formal training was in plant community ecology and she has a particular interest in restoration and community-based conservation. Ms. Young has traveled and lectured broadly. She has contributed a chapter on management of mitigation banks in Mitigation Banking: Theory and Practice, (Island Press 1996) and co-authored a book for New Society Publishers, The Ecology of Hope: Communities Collaborate for Sustainability, 1997. |

Ingrid K Von Rohr, from Munich Germany is a doctor of Naturopathy, and a homeopath with more than 25 years of professional practice. She uses acupuncture, color therapy, herbal medicine, and other modalities in her practice. She has written numerous books on natural medicine, the benefits of the vegetarian diet and conscious living. She has given health care seminars for medical and related organizations and groups throughout Europe and around the world. One of her current seminar topics is—“Tell me what you eat and think, and I will tell you who you are.” |

Matthew Raider, MD
As a physician who has been meditating for over twenty-five years, Dr. Raider has a strong interest in meditation and its relationship to health. He has lectured extensively in the United States and Canada about the healing power of meditation. Dr. Raider has maintained a private practice in family medicine and geriatrics since 1982, coordinated the geriatric teaching program at Middlesex Hospital in Connecticut since 1986, and has held a faculty position at the University of Connecticut Medical School. He also is the medical director of five Connecticut health care facilities. In Southern New England, he has been invited to speak at the Veteran’s Administration Hospital, Rocky Hill, CT, Middlesex Hospital, Middletown, CT, and St. Mary’s Hospital, Waterbury, CT, among others. He considers his programs to be a public service and accepts no honoraria. |
